How Muse Wellbeing Supports Toner Avenue Primary School
At Toner Avenue, Muse Wellbeing lessons are delivered weekly by teachers and HLTAs as standalone PSHE sessions.
The school wanted a curriculum that would feel current, engaging and age-appropriate, while also supporting staff to teach sensitive areas of PSHE and RSE with confidence.
Muse Wellbeing has helped provide a more streamlined approach to the teaching of PSHE and RSE, with lesson plans, slides, videos and supporting resources that staff can access easily and adapt where needed.
Staff also valued being able to track themes across year groups more clearly, helping strengthen consistency and progression across the school.
PSHE in Practice at Toner Avenue Primary School
In practice, Muse Wellbeing has helped make PSHE delivery more manageable and responsive to the needs of Toner Avenue pupils.
Staff highlighted the value of having fully prepared lessons and supporting materials in one place, helping teachers feel more confident and comfortable when delivering important and sometimes sensitive areas of the curriculum.
This has also allowed the school to build PSHE lessons around the needs of individual classes, while linking some areas to wider school priorities such as oracy and discussion. Staff noted that the curriculum has given pupils more opportunities to talk about relevant issues in meaningful ways, using language and examples that feel closer to their own lives.
One example highlighted by staff came from Year 1, where pupils particularly enjoyed learning about teamwork and exploring what good teamwork looks like, sounds like and feels like. Staff found that this gave children a clear and practical way to talk about collaboration, and that pupils were able to refer back to the learning afterwards in everyday classroom life.
The school also valued the way Muse Wellbeing supports pupils in understanding emotions, friendships, transitions and mental wellbeing in a practical and realistic way. Staff noted that pupils are encouraged not only to support one another, but also to speak positively about themselves and recognise their own qualities and achievements.
85% of pupils
felt that Muse Wellbeing lessons help them understand friendships and relationships better.
