Supporting PSHE Provision for Ofsted Inspections

Muse Wellbeing helps primary schools deliver a clear PSHE, RSE and wellbeing curriculum that supports pupils’ personal development, relationships, health, safety and emotional wellbeing.

When preparing for Ofsted inspections, leaders may need to explain how their PSHE curriculum supports pupils beyond academic learning, including healthy relationships, online safety, wellbeing, respect, responsibility and preparation for the next stage of education.

The latest Ofsted school inspection guidance gives schools and inspectors a clear framework for thinking about inspection. Muse Wellbeing supports schools by giving PSHE leads and senior leaders a practical way to show how PSHE is planned, taught and developed across Years 1 to 6.

Helping Schools Communicate PSHE Provision

A structured PSHE, RSE and wellbeing curriculum from Year 1 to Year 6 classrooms.

Lessons that support relationships, health, safety, wellbeing and wider personal growth.

Leadership resources to help schools explain their curriculum clearly and confidently.

Supporting PSHE and Personal Development

PSHE plays an important role in helping pupils develop the knowledge, values and skills they need for life inside and outside school. Through Muse Wellbeing, pupils explore themes linked to relationships, health, wellbeing, safety, community, digital life and personal growth.

The curriculum is built around five core values: Mental and Physical Health, Positive and Respectful Relationships, Global Citizenship and Community Care, Personal Growth and Economic Wellbeing and Digital Citizenship and Online Safety.

These values help schools show how PSHE supports wider personal development in a clear and joined-up way. Lessons are designed to help pupils think, discuss, reflect and apply their learning to real-life situations.

You can learn more about the full programme on our Primary PSHE Curriculum page.

A Clear PSHE Curriculum from Year 1 to Year 6

A strong PSHE curriculum should show progression, consistency and clear intent, not feel like a set of one-off lessons. Muse Wellbeing is organised across year groups, topics and values, helping pupils revisit key ideas in age-appropriate ways as they move through primary school.

Each Muse Wellbeing PSHE lesson includes structured teacher guidance, learning objectives, classroom activities and opportunities for discussion and reflection. This helps teachers build knowledge gradually, while giving leaders a clear way to explain what is taught, when it is taught and why it matters.

Supporting Statutory RSHE Education

Primary schools are required to teach Relationships Education and Health Education. Muse Wellbeing supports this by providing a broad PSHE curriculum that includes statutory RSHE content alongside wider wellbeing and personal development learning.

Schools remain responsible for their own policy decisions, curriculum choices and communication with families. Muse Wellbeing supports this work by giving schools clear resources, curriculum mapping and guidance that can be adapted to their context.

Our Parents and Carers page also helps families understand the purpose of PSHE, RSE and wellbeing education in primary schools.

Helping Leaders Prepare with Confidence

Inspection preparation should not mean creating unnecessary paperwork. In most cases, schools are best served by being able to explain their existing curriculum clearly.

Schools can also keep up to date with latest news and updates from Ofsted, especially when reviewing inspection priorities and wider school guidance.

Muse Wellbeing helps schools gather and present the PSHE inspection evidence they already have. This may include yearly overviews, lesson materials, statutory mapping, pupil voice activities, assessment opportunities and leadership resources.
