The Muse Wellbeing
Key Stage 1 PSHE Curriculum
The Muse curriculum offers ready-made lessons and teacher guidance for KS1 classrooms, promoting kindness, confidence and healthy relationships through high quality PSHE and RSE learning across Year 1 and Year 2.
Key Learning Themes Within the KS1 PSHE Curriculum
The KS1 PSHE curriculum introduces themes that nurture wellbeing, respect and personal responsibility. Students learn to recognise and identify feelings, build friendships and make thoughtful choices that keep themselves and others safe. Lessons encourage kindness, communication and empathy through discussion, reflection and creative activity. Across Year 1 and Year 2, children develop the early life skills needed for confidence, resilience and positive relationships while laying secure foundations for future PSHE learning.
RSE in Year 1 and Year 2 Classrooms
Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) teaches children about friendships, families, safety and respect in age-appropriate ways. From September 2026 all primary schools must follow the updated government guidance for RSE delivery. Within most schools RSE is taught through PSHE, alongside wider topics on health and wellbeing. In the Muse curriculum Year 1 lessons introduce friendships, feelings and personal boundaries, while Year 2 lessons explore cooperation, safety and understanding differences to build respectful, caring relationships.
The Muse Wellbeing KS1 Scheme of Work
The Muse Wellbeing KS1 scheme of work provides teachers with a complete, sequenced approach to PSHE and RSE across Year 1 and Year 2. Each lesson includes a clear starter, class discussions and independent learning activities, supported by slides, guidance notes and printable resources. Topics are age-appropriate and mapped to the Muse Assessment Objectives, ensuring continuity and measurable progress in key areas of wellbeing, relationships, and personal development.
All learning units link to the five Muse core values, creating a consistent thread that supports whole-school culture. The scheme promotes confident teaching, inclusive participation, and full alignment with statutory PSHE and RSE requirements.

Learning Objectives in PSHE KS1
PSHE learning objectives in KS1 are built around three termly topics: Health and Wellbeing, Understanding Relationships and The World Around Us. Within each theme, pupils explore focused learning areas such as mental health, friendships, staying safe and personal growth. Year 1 and Year 2 objectives are mapped to ensure steady progress in emotional understanding, respect and responsibility, preparing children for the deeper learning of Key Stage 2.
Safeguarding and Statutory Compliance in PSHE KS1
Safeguarding is central to the Muse Wellbeing curriculum and staying safe is a key theme across many Muse Wellbeing lessons. Pupils learn to recognise trusted adults in school, at home and within their wider communities, understanding who to turn to when they need help and support. All content reflects statutory guidance for Relationships, Health and RSE education from September 2026, supporting safe, confident delivery and reinforcing a strong whole-school safeguarding culture.
